Sangala Mosaic is a mosaic design tool. An image or photograph can be used as a starting point to design a mosaic that can be constructed from LEGO tiles or beads. It is one tool in a suite of design tools that have been developed through the Sangala Initiative, a joint collaboration between the Make to Learn Laboratory at the University of Virginia and REACH for Uganda. The word sangala means joy in the Lugisu language of the Mt. Elgon region in east Africa.
The icon representing Sangala Mosaic in its logo and the desktop launcher is a mosaic of a turaco. This bird may be found in the Mount Elgon National Park and is endemic to sub-Saharan Africa.
